There has recently been a huge surge of attention on the topic of interval training for weight loss. A lot of people are starting to see the benefits of it and how it can help you lose more weight than low intensity cardio, while old-school bodybuilders and fitness gurus are sticking to their guns that low intensity cardio is the way to go. As with pretty much everything in health, there are studies showing the benefits of both so it's kind of a catch-22. However, I'm going to help you figure out which is better for you - interval training or steady state cardio for weight loss. First, think about how much time you have. If you have a lot of time you're probably doing steady state cardio because it takes longer. But if you're short on time like a lot of people, I would recommend interval training because it can burn the same amount of calories or more in a shorter time period. Second, you have to look at your own personal goals. Are you in this to strictly lose weight and look better, or are you exercises merely to stimulate your muscles and go easy on yourself while also getting the benefits of working out? If you want more weight loss, I recommend adding interval training to your workout regime. If you're looking to do something more simple and easier just for the health benefits, you can stick with steady-state cardio. Next you want to look at your own preferences. I recommend that every single person reading this at least tries training in intervals just to see if you like it or not. Some people end up loving it, some hate it. It all depends on YOU! Now having said all this, here is my recommendation. Instead of being narrow-minded like most of the people in fitness today, why not mix them up? Do high intensity interval training once or twice a week, and mix in some low intensity exercises such as walking or jogging in there as well? That's what I personally do and I think it's the best way to do it. Then you get the benefits of both interval training and steady state cardio and your weight loss progress might even increase because you're constantly mixing it up and confusing your body!
