How can I stop sweating? This is the question that I've asked my dermatologist about my sweating problem. I used to have this excessive sweating of the palms for 2 years and kept it to the minimum by always holding a hanky. I never bothered to have it checked by a doctor since I was too embarrassed about the problem. After the couple of years, I found that I could not bear it anymore, it was proving to be a nuisance and kind of moves my self- esteem down a notch, especially where meeting new people and shaking hands are concerned. It even made me shy away from having any personal contact with people that I like. I had to find a way to stop excessive sweating of the palms. I went to the dermatologist and asked him ways to stop excessive sweating especially in the palms. What he told me taught me not just on how to stop excessive sweating on my palms, but on prevent excessive sweating of any body part in general. - Change of diet- one of the most basic things, if not the first thing that I should do to stop embarrassing sweating is to eat the right kind of food and drink the right kind of fluids. As what the doctor said, there are just some food and drinks that trigger excessive sweating, and examples of such are fatty foods and drinks heavily laden with caffeine. However, there are some foods that cause excessive sweating to one person while not cause any to another person. In this case, the dermatologist said that it is much better if I, or we, take special notice of the food and drink intake and see if they cause excessive sweating.
- Antiperspirants- when the doctor said this, I immediately thought that he might be telling me a method on stopping sweating in the underarms. As I listened more, I found out that antiperspirants do no come only as roll-ons and spray-ons, but also as tablets taken orally, and creams applied topically to any problem area. The most common active ingredient of an antiperspirant is the aluminum chloride, and the products containing these can be bought over the counter. If you want to go super anti-perspiring strength, the doctor will prescribe super strong antiperspirants that contain ingredients such as aluminum chloride hexadrate. In this case, the doctor's prescription is needed to buy any product containing this active ingredient.
- Botox injections- I know, I know, it's not what you have in mind. You are thinking as to stopping excessive sweating with the use of Botox injections. With all the medical jargons that the dermatologist told me, I still can't say it in layman's terms except for the fact that it is widely used to stop excessive sweating and is very effective. This treatment is a bit expensive and is one of the last modes of treatment a dermatologist would resort to. This is because a side-effect of this is asymmetry of the face. An example of asymmetry of the face is when you smile, only half of your face is doing it. If you are thinking of Joker's face, you got it right.
