The Lean and Green Diet - What is It, Really? How Does it Wo

There seems to be confusion as to what "lean and green" diet really means.  I am on the Medifast diet.  Sometimes, I'll have people come up to me and say "oh, you mean the "lean and green." Well, not exactly.  I think that the confusion likes in the fact that there are a couple of books that have this same name in the title.  One covers an organic and vegan diet and was written in the 1980s. The other is a new release which covers environmentally friendly eating.  These are not what I'm talking about when I discuss my diet.  I'll go over how this relates to my diet in the following article.

What Is The "Medifast Lean And Green Diet"?:  Actually, this is a bit of a misunderstanding too. The diet that I am on is called Medifast only.  One main component of it is the "lean and green meal."  I'll explain.  On this diet, you will eat six times per day.  Five of the meals will be provided for you and are prepackaged.  So, you really don't have to do anything for most of the day other than remove wrappers from protein bars, mix shakes, soups, and chili, or assemble some eggs or pudding. 

But, you are also asked to eat one fresh, healthful and larger meal per day and this meal is called "the lean and green."  It gets it's name because the protein that makes up this meal is supposed to be lean and you're also asked to include vegetables.  It's really as simple as that.  So, this meal is one part of the diet, but it is not the diet itself.  However, it's an important part of the plan because it keeps your metabolism high, ensures that you eat fresh foods, and teaches you how to make good choices so that you'll be "safe" once you've reached your weight loss goals and move on to the maintenance phase of the diet.

Do I Have To Include It? What If I Want To Skip It:  Many people will mistakenly want to skip this meal or just eat the prepackaged meals six times per day instead of five.  I suppose they think that they are saving themselves calories if they do this.  I understand this thinking, but I know from experience that this is a mistake.  You need to eat regularly and take in enough calories to put your body in ketosis (which is the whole goal of this diet) where your body is burning it's own fat.  So, if you skip this, you're really only delaying the promised land of ketosis.

And, the company is very good about providing guidelines and recipes for this meal.  It's really very easy to find lot of recipes that will appeal to you, not matter what your preferences. So, it's really not hard to accomplish and it's very necessary (at least in my own experience) for dramatic success.
