I'm sure you've heard by now that interval training for fat loss is one of the best things you could possibly do. However, for some people that's simply not the case. I'm going to give you a very unbiased, objective view of interval training and whether or not it will help you get the fat loss results you're looking for. First of all, there are a lot of people who think interval training is some kind of miracle weight loss cure or something - but it's not. Although some studies show it to be more effective than low intensity cardio, the claims are often exaggerated. For example one study shows up to 9 times more fat loss than low intensity training, but a closer examination of the research study shows that interval training just barely beat out low intensity training. Another common myth is that interval training helps fat loss by increasing your metabolism for 24-48 hours after you exercise, but in actuality it only does this minimally and won't have a major impact on losing weight. Given those 2 "half-myths", I would still recommend interval training because not only will it burn more overall calories than low intensity training, it's also a lot more fun than low intensity training and takes a lot less time. You can do a 20 minute high intensity interval training workout and get roughly the same benefit as you would from a 60 minute cardio session, but you won't risk the chance of losing extra muscle along the way! So although the interval training fat loss method isn't quite all that it's cracked up to be, I still personally adopt this style of training and would recommend it to anybody who can do it. It's more fun, takes less time, gives you slightly better results, and gives you a much more "athletic" look than slow cardio. But be aware that it does take its toll on your body so if you're just starting out, ease into doing interval exercises slowly so you don't overdue or it injure yourself!
